FRONT OF THE HOUSE

Luke Bryan will join with the Opry in the fight against breast cancer on Tuesday, October 22nd with a two-show edition of Opry Goes Pink. Luke will flip the switch on the Opry’s signature barn backdrop, turning it pink for the night as the superstar takes the stage to perform an intimate and rare acoustic set on both shows that evening.

ON THE BAR WALL

It continues to be an eventful week for one of my favs Ryan Hurd after participating in the SIP Hope 4 Hope Town benefit concert at the Ryman Auditorium on Monday, receiving Gold certification for his single “To A T” on Tuesday, and the release tomorrow of his five-song Platonic EPThe collection includes Hurd’s current rising radio hit “To A T” and the sweetly wistful “Wish For the World,” which Hurd performed during the Hope 4 Hope Town benefit, presented by Songwriters in Paradise. The star-packed concert raised funds for an estimated 70,000 people in the Bahamas left homeless by the ravages of Hurricane Dorian on Sept. 1.

NEAT

The Country Music Association’s acclaimed CMA Songwriters Series Presented by U.S. Bank has announced a performance in Albuquerque at KiMo Theatre Tuesday, Oct. 15 featuring Lauren AlainaErin EnderlinSierra Hull & Luke Laird. The series hosts an intimate round of performances with some of Country Music’s top songwriters taking turns sharing the stories behind their hit songs and performing them as originally written. While in Albuquerque, the CMA Foundation and U.S. Bank will visit Albuquerque High School to meet with music students and host an exciting interactive workshop focused on the craft of songwriting. The visit is part of U.S. Bank’s Community Possible giving and engagement platform and its Places to Play partnership with the CMA Foundation. This partnership has forged a $250,000 grant, a portion of which will benefit Albuquerque Public School’s musical instrument repair facility and support music students for many years to come.

LAST CALL

Sorry to report that CMA Award-winning journalist Chuck Dauphin died last night at Nashville’s Alive Hospice following a series of complications from diabetes. He was 45. Chuck was one of the very first country music reporters I ever met and he couldn’t have been more welcoming and encouraging of what I was trying to build with the Morning Hangover. His byline was featured in just about every music publication you can think of. He will most definitely be missed.
