TOP SHELF

Chris Young headlined the final outdoor Whiskey Jam concert last night in Loser’s parking lot in Nashville. Thousands of country music fans showed up to the free show that was presented by The AMG Group & Tequila Comisario that also featured some of the brightest new country music faces in the industry. This was my first Whiskey Jam experience and it couldn’t have been more fun. I love that this is something CY did “just for fun” as a way to give back to fans and promote the new faces that opened for him. He never disappoints and delighted fans by bringing “Think of You” duet partner Cassadee Pope on stage to perform their smash hit. Re-live that and some of my other fav moments right now on @MorningHangover #InstaStory and keep reading for a rundown of my thoughts on Payton Smith, Alexis Wilkins, Essex County, Liv Charette, and Nolan Sotillo

ON THE JUKEBOX

It’s Carrie Underwood like you’ve never heard her before with her new sultry single “Drinking Alone” – one of my absolute fav songs from her “Cry Pretty” record and one of the standout songs from her live show. Love that this is the new single she chose to go to country radio with!

AT THE BAR

I had the choice of leaving Nashville yesterday morning, staying and going to the Elton John concert or staying and going to Whiskey Jam – I opted for Whiskey Jam – in large part because I really wanted to see some of these new artists like Payton Smith, Alexis Wilkins, Essex County, Liv Charette, and Nolan Sotillo. I’m glad I did. Payton is a tour-de-force performer who has a stage presence and energy that you would not expect from a talent so young. It’s clear how much Keith Urban has influenced his style and if Keith had been able to see Payton last night, he’d be proud. I’ll admit that the performer who surprised me the most was Alexis – something about her performance really jumped out at me in terms of her swagger and style. She can flat-out sing and has enormous potential to be a really big star.

Essex County just became my favorite import from across-the-pond – man can these guys sing. I wish all of you could’ve heard their sound-check because it was absolutely fantastic!  Liv Charette could be a real force and I expect her to become one of our “Next Women of Country” at some point. The first act of the night was Nolan Sotillo, an actor by trade who is dedicating his creative talents full-time to music. Nolan has something to prove and I’ll be interested to see how he develops and grows as a country music artist. All-in-all – it was such a fun night full of remarkably talented young artists. Those of us who were there could very well be watching the birth of one of the future cornerstones of our format. So exciting to see the new blood in action. Thanks to Rob Beckham and the AMG team for making this a priority for me. It did not disappoint!

CRUSHIN IT

Luke Combs’ double-Platinum debut album This One’s For You is No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart for the 50th non-consecutive week—tying the record for the longest reign atop the chart with Shania Twain’s Come On Over in 1997. This One’s For You is also the most-streamed country album of 2019 so far.

BACKSTAGE PASS

Morgan Wallen played a show in the backyard of the grand prize winner and their friends at  The BIG 98’s Guitar-B-Que on Sunday. His set included “Whiskey Glasses” Up Down” and “Chasin You” – He even performed his cover of “Cover Me UP” by Jason Isbell as the winner, Melissa and her fiance Jason had chosen it as their wedding song! Such a cool contest idea!

Teddy Robb releases the official music video for his debut single “Really Shouldn’t Drink Around You, The video, directed by Dustin Haney and shot in Colorado, opens with Teddy finding himself in a field alone after a night of drinking. True to the fun and witty nature of the song, we see what ultimately landed Teddy in that field…and why it may keep happening

LAST CALL

Tanya Tucker’s new video for “Bring My Flowers Now,” featuring Brandi Carlile and directed by acclaimed video director Trey Fanjoy has just been released! The song speaks to the importance of showing appreciation to those we love, before it’s too late!
