TOP SHELF

Last night at the DAR Constitution Hall in DC, members of Congress witnessed up-close why Garth Brooks might be the greatest entertainer of all time. You think it’s hard to get a room full of country radio programmers to get up off their butts at CRS, imagine playing a room that features House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy sitting next to one another for two hours! Unphased by the trappings, “The Big Guy,” through sheer force of personality, authenticity, emotion & gratitude, got everyone off their feet and boisterously singing along to some of Garth’s fav musical influences like Don McClean, Bob Seiger, and Merle Haggard, while also playing some of his biggest hits like “Thunder Road,” “The Dance,” and “Friends in Low Places.” But before Garth did what he does best, he had the unique experience of watching some of his best friends pay tribute to him in honor of being presented with the prestigious “Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.” Keith Urban, Chris Stapleton, Lee Brice, Ricky Skaggs, Keb’Mo, Jay Leno, and Trisha Yearwood serenaded Garth to some of his most consequential songs in a remarkable tribute that will air on PBS on March 29th. Nashvile never being far from Garth’s mind, he began the night be asking everyone to take a moment of silence in memory of those lost by the terrible Tornado that hit Music City.
