ON THE HOUSE

“The U.S. is seeing a “disturbing surge” of COVID-19 infections, particularly in the Southeast and West, Dr. Anthony Fauci said during a House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing Tuesday. Playing a large part in this surge, health officials say, are increasing cases in younger people, in their 20s, 30s, and 40s — increases that are driven, in part, by increased testing, but even more so by large gatherings…” Speaking directly to surges in Florida, Texas, and Arizona, Fauci said, “We were going down from 30,000 [new cases per day] to 25,000 to 20,000, and then we sort of stayed kind of flat, but now we’re going up. A couple of days ago there were 30,000 new infections.” If you’re thinking to yourself, well, the # of testing went up so naturally, the # of cases went up, you’re missing the boat. Pay attention to the positivity rate: In Arizona, the state’s positive test rate has soared to 21%, that’s a 3x increase from a month ago. Florida has a 10% positivity rate – that’s up from 4% at the start of June. In Texas, Houston’s rate has tripled to 9% and is on track to have the worst infection rate in any city in America.

AT THE BAR

Busch, the beer brewed for the great outdoors, has extolled the beauty of America’s landscapes using music and song since its founding in 1955, developing iconic jingles for its ad campaigns such as ‘Head for the Mountains’ in the 1980s. Inspired by the creativity Americans across the country showed while staying indoors this spring, Busch is announcing a new campaign to bring that very song to the fore again, and is enlisting the support of Billy Ray Cyrus and one lucky Busch fan to do so. Starting today through July 5th, Busch is giving its fans the chance to remake its ‘Head for the Mountains’ jingle, with one person taking home a $10,000 contract from Busch to have their version featured in an upcoming ad. To help determine the winner, Busch is partnering with rockstar Billy Ray, who kicked off the campaign with a rendition of his own. In addition to identifying the winning entry, Cyrus will help him or her hone their skills with a 1:1 coaching lesson before recording the final version.
