CHEERS

TOP SHELF

Some of the music industry’s most influential artists, songwriters and artist representatives announced today the formation of the MUSIC ARTISTS COALITION – a music creator’s coalition with the mandate to advocate for and protect artists’ rights. The group has set a clear mission to speak for artists, performers and songwriters — first, foremost, only – and without compromise. Led by Irving Azoff, Coran Capshaw, John Silva, the initial Board for the organization will include artists such as Don Henley, Dave Matthews, Shane McAnally, Maren Morris, Anderson.Paak, Meghan Trainor and Verdine White.  The Board will also include Jordan Bromley, Jim Cicconi, Kristen Foster, Susan Genco, Elliot Groffman and Ali Harnell.  Other artists and songwriters who are committed to advocacy will be asked to join the Music Artists Coalition (MAC). I can tell you firsthand, as someone who has worked on Capitol Hill and operated professionally in D.C. for more than a decade, policymakers/political candidates are woefully ignorant on the issues that artists, performers and songwriters face. Most of the laws governing content were crafted during a time when streaming never existed. The reality is, if a group like this is going to succeed, it is going to have to have a real understanding of how the policy and political process really works.

CRUSHIN IT

@KaneBrown (Team Sony) sold out the Los Angeles Staples Center (home of my #LakeShow) in less than 2 hours on Friday. Kane’s headlining concert at Staples Center on October 18th, marks the kick off of the historic downtown Los Angeles venue’s 20th anniversary celebration. The concert marks the first major milestone event in what will be a year long celebration of the arena’s memorable history since opening the doors on October 17, 1999, including its contribution as the driving force behind the revitalization and resurrection of downtown Los Angeles. Staples Center will celebrate their 20-year anniversary with a series of exciting events and special nights dedicated to highlighting significant moments that have taken place.
