ON THE HOUSE

Yesterday, I featured a section about Hunter Hayes’ first single in three years “Heartbreak” – I didn’t realize it at the time but apparently it won’t be released to country radio for a few months. It is however, available across digital/streaming platforms tomorrow so be sure and check it out. Just wanted to make that distinction. Although, it does provoke a question I have, which is, if it’s available across various platforms now, why not release it to radio too? Seems like a disconnect or disadvantage for radio actually to be in a situation where the audience ends of being able to consume something weeks/months before radio gets it. The natural life cycle is by the time it gets to radio, fans have already been hot on it and it creates a situation where radio is that much further behind where fans/audiences are in real time. Food for thought as they say.

FRONT OF THE HOUSE

The Grand Ole Opry is about to go where no man has gone before when William Shatner makes his first-ever appearance as a performer on the Opry stage on February 15th as he prepares to release his country album, “Why Not Me,” with Jeff Cook of the band Alabama. The title track will be released to country radio stations on February 25.

AT THE BAR

Warner Music Nashville / Warner Bros. Records rising star Morgan Evans is putting a sun-kissed new spin on his chart-climbing single “Day Drunk.” A live acoustic version of the track is available today as part of the Highway 1 Sessions video series. Filmed on the beach, waves crash underneath the clear blue sky in the “Day Drunk” live acoustic video as Evans plays guitar to accompany the fun-loving lyrics. The Australia native’s laid-back vibe shines through in the clip; shades-on and sipping a beer with toes in the sand.

SESAC and BMI, and a host of music industry friends and family packed The Local in Nashville to celebrate the success of Stoney Creek recording artist and SESAC songwriter Jimmie Allens debut #1 single, “Best Shot.” After spending two weeks at the top of the chart, it fell to number two, only to return the next week for its third week atop the chart. This is the first time since 2012 that a debut artist spent three weeks at #1 with their debut single. This is also the first #1 song for co-writers Josh London, SESAC and J.P. Williams, BMI.
