CHEERS

Happy Birthday to Cumulus NYC’s Katie Neal and to Cold River’s Marie Wapelhorst

TOP SHELF

The incomparable REBA was honored last night in DC at the annual Kennedy Center Honors. The event will be broadcast on CBS on December 26th at 8 p.m. Joining Reba in being recognized for her contributions to the arts were Cher, saxophonist/composer Wayne Shorter and composer Philip Glass, “Hamilton” co-creators – writer and star Lin-Manuel Miranda, director Thomas Kail, choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler, and music director Alex Lacamoire. Upon receiving the honor Reba said, “I’ve been here three times before tonight. Once for Dolly, once for Loretta [and] Carol Burnett, once for Lily. And I sat right over there and I thought, ‘Wow, how many people have been in this room?’ I know that I was born an entertainer to help heal hearts–by singing, by acting, by letting people laugh…I’m not a political person, but being here, going back to this building in Washington D.C., I respect and I honor the people who took their time to help us, to make this country bigger, better, for all the people across the United States–east and west, north and south. Thank you all if you’ve had any part to do with that. Thank you all very, very much. Because we’re here to entertain. We’re here to make you laugh, to make you smile. And if that heart hurts, hopefully, the songs that we sing, that we were moved by when we heard them for the first time, by the time we sing them and touches your heart, hopefully, it touches you enough to make a difference”

BUZZIN

Unconventional with her approach to life and music, Lauren Jenkins is unfolding her stories through a series of unfiltered acoustic videos like this one for “Maker’s Mark & You as deliberate vocals mesh with a visually stark backdrop in just one take with no gimmicks or distractions … nothing but her and a guitar.

NEAT

Granger Smith’s eagerly-awaited They Were There: A Hero’s Documentary is available right nowWatch Granger’s special message to the fans on the morning of the release. In conjunction with an original soundtrack, the self-produced documentary honors the lives of five fallen soldiers and seeks to pay tribute to their heroic sacrifices and infinite legacies. In partnership with Texas Roadhouse and Altama, watch They Were There: A Hero’s Documentary on Granger’s YouTube channel and listen to the soundtrack HERE. Over the course of five days, producer Granger Smith and director Paul De La Cerda embark on a journey to honor each soldier, one hero per day. Set against the Chihuahuan Desert near the Texas Rio Grande and Mexico border, Granger narrates the film, reading personal letters from the soldiers and meeting with family members and loved ones throughout the course of the film. Through one-on-one interviews, viewers intimately get to know their stories, their families and the aftermath of losing a loved one for the price of freedom.
